My Story: Self-Transformation from Chronic Pain to a Joyful Journey of Balance and Self-Mastery
Working at a computer for prolonged periods of time for eighteen years, drained my energy, put strain on my back, neck and shoulder muscles. By the time I got home, I didn’t have much energy left to spare for my family let alone the chores around the house. Years of improper repetitive hand movement using the mouse left me with carpal-tunnel syndrome and a kinked thoracic spine which I tried to treat with monthly visits to my chiropractor. I was faced with the true challenges of striving to keep balance between body, psyche and spirit.
My transformation began after I learned how to cultivate my body’s healing energy through simple Tai Chi movements combined with therapeutic yoga poses. I have come to understand that some of the deepest and most effective healing is not found at a doctor’s office or a hospital, but rather from inside ourselves. I now find great pleasure in teaching others, empowering participants to stay well by taking attentive care of all aspects of their lives.
“Our research found that employees reporting the highest stress level had nearly $2,000 higher medical costs for the preceding year than those reporting the lowest stress levels. These programs were successfully proven to reduce stress, which can help reduce associated health care costs.” – Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini talks with alignyo about yoga
“Twenty minutes per day of guided workplace meditation and yoga combined with six weekly group sessions can lower feelings of stress by more than 10 percent and improve sleep quality in sedentary office employees, a pilot study suggests.” – Pilot Study designed by Ohio State University for office-based workers wearing professional attire
